Henk-Jan Boele

Founder and CEO, BlinkLab

Henk-Jan Boele (MD, PhD) is the founder and CEO of BlinkLab, an assistant professor at the Department of Neuroscience at Erasmus University Medical Center, and a visiting researcher at Princeton Neuroscience Institute. Henk-Jan’s aspiration is to take well-established neurobehavioral tests for diagnoses of mental health disorders and make them more easily accessible through the use of smartphones. His idea became a reality in August 2021 when he founded BlinkLab with a team of world-renowned neuroscientists and brilliant software developers who tackled the challenge of programming smartphones in an unconventional way to conduct neurobehavioral testing. Henk-Jan and his team have been working closely together for more than a decade, cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect, communication, and collaboration.

Henk-Jan obtained his PhD degree cum laude in 2014 after completing fundamental research on the neural mechanisms underlying memory formation. Following the completion of his medical degree program in 2016, he started his post-doctoral research on brain development and autism at Princeton University in the lab of Prof. Samuel S.-H. Wang. Henk-Jan’s research is constantly pushing scientific and methodological boundaries. His efforts have been recognized with numerous awards, such as those from Princeton University, Erasmus MC, the Dutch Research Council, the European Research Council, and the New Jersey Autism Center for Excellence. BlinkLab was founded by Henk-Jan Boele and his team as a way to combine fundamental neuroscience with clinical application for the purpose of improving diagnostics of mental health conditions, such as autism, ADHD, and schizophrenia.
