Bio/Description

Jim is a General Partner of Fitz Gate Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm. Fitz Gate’s third fund, which launched in May 2024, can invest anywhere geographically but has a focus on the New York and Texas ecosystems where Fitz Gate’s GPs (Jim Cohen and Mark Poag) have deep networks and teach venture capital investing at the Princeton University Graduate School and Rice University Jones School of Business (Rice is one of Fitz Gate’s anchor investors). Fitz Gate writes initial checks of $500K - $2M, reserving for follow-on rounds and will lead, follow or invest alone. Jim is a member of the Princeton Dean for Research's Advisory Council, Rice University's One Small Step Grant Committee and a mentor to Techstars NYC, the Rice University Lilie Lab, Rice Alliance and the Princeton Entrepreneurship Council. Jim was awarded the 2022 Clio Hall Award from the Princeton University Graduate School in recognition of his class on venture capital.
