Originally from Beijing China, Kevin is a Ph.D. student in chemical and biological engineering. Influenced by his childhood growing up inside a petroleum refinery, Kevin became fascinated by the topic of sustainable biomanufacturing with synthetic biology, and he started doing research on biodegradable polymers as an undergrad from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Continuing his studies at Princeton, he focused on sustainable and scalable manufacturing of natural products for fragrances and flavors using yeast. Driven by his passion for entrepreneurship, Kevin did a six-month internship at a Venture Capital firm, learning the essentials of building successful startups. Currently, he is launching a startup company with his lab mate and advisor. Their mission is to accelerate the wider adoption of biomanufacturing processes for chemicals production, utilizing technologies developed in his Ph.D. lab. Outside of the lab, he was honored with the 2023 Clio Hall Award for co-creating a diverse range of GradFUTURES programming. As a former Professional Development Associate in the engineering division, he played a key role in launching Virtual Meet-Ups to connect graduate students and alums during the pandemic. Additionally, as the vice president of the Graduate Consulting Club, he co-created a Wintersession workshop that evolved into the Structured Problem Solving like Consultants GradFUTURES Learning Cohort, which he continues to facilitate. He actively curates experiential learning opportunities for graduate students interested in consulting, including case competitions and projects. Outside of work, Kevin is a skilled foil fencer and a dedicated skier but recently embarked on the journey of learning snowboarding.
